Irene D. Collins, age 83, L'Anse, MI, was born into Eternal Life on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Waukesha, WI. Born September 13, 1923 in Stambaugh, MI The daughter of the late William and Bertha (Ziebarth) Heisel attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1941. She married Clarence Abrahamson in 1944, and he preceded her in death in 1960. In 1962, she married Edward Benson, and he preceded her in death in 1968. Irene married James Collins in 1987 at L'Anse, where the couple made their home. She was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and University of Michigan Wolverines. She also enjoyed dancing. She was also preceded in death by her son, Wayne Benson and two brothers, Walter and Albert Heisel. She is survived by her husband, James One son, Kenneth (Carol) Abrahamson of Sussex, WI Two daughters, Judy (Jim) Heikkila of Cary, NC Sally Nelson of New Berlin, WI A daughter-in-law, Julie Benson of Alpena, MI Seven grandchildren, Steven Heikkila of Portland, OR Jeremy Heikkila of Cary, NC Michael (Carla) Gill of Mansfield, TX B. J. Nelson of New Berlin, WI Kelly (Dan) Starr of Greenfield, WI Erin and Justin Benson of Alpena, MI Four great grandchildren One brother, Martin Heisel of Iron River, MI Two sisters, Lucille Benson of Caspian, MI Emma Abrahamson of Caspian, MI Four step-sons, Terry (Wendy) Collins of Ironwood, MI Jim (Chris) Collins of L'Anse, MI Tom (Sue) Collins of Skanee, MI Bill (Alice) Collins of Rudyard, MI Thirteen step-grandchildren Eight step-great grandchildren Visitation: Sunday, July 1, 2007 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River Funeral Services: Monday, July 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Iron River with Pastor Joel Fleischer to officiate.
