Irene K. Youngren, age 88, of Iron River, MI passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Northstar Health System in Iron River. Irene was born July 4, 1926 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche (Kopenski) Ross. She attended the Iron River schools, graduating from Iron River High School in 1944. Irene married Clayton "Bumpers" Youngren on August 17, 1946 at the Assumption Church in Iron River and the couple made their home in Stambaugh. The couple celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in 1995. Clayton preceded her in death in November 1995. She was employed at a defense plant in Milwaukee, WI prior to her marriage, and later worked at F.W. Means in Caspian. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, the Rosary Sodality, and a former member of the Blessed Sacrament Church of Stambaugh. Irene enjoyed fishing, cooking, sewing, knitting, and gardening. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Carter and Robert Ross. Irene is survived by her sons, Dean (Gwen) Youngren of Cement City, MI and Curtis (Patricia) Youngren of Soldotna, AK; sister, Beverly (Ronald) Markkola of Wisconsin; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The ladies of the Rosary Sodality will form an Honor Guard at the service. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River.
