Irving W. Koski

Mr. Irving W. ""Ike"" Koski, age 82 of Iron River, MI died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River. Born November 23, 1926 in Iron River, MI The son of the late Irving and Eva (Konwinski) Koski attended the Iron River schools, graduating with the class of 1944. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Ike married the former Doris Stromberg on May 18, 1951 in Iron River, MI, and the couple made their home in Bates Township. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2001. He was employed by the MA Hanna Mining Company, until his retirement from the company when the Groveland Mine closed. He also owned and operated Koski and Lund Roofing. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion Alfred Branchini Post #17, the VFW, Eagles, and Amvets. He was also past Commander and Vice Commander of the American Legion. Ike was very active in the veterans and attended all functions and military funerals. He played bingo with the veteran patients at the VA for years and collected can tabs to support veteran organizations. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Koski and George Nantelle. He is survived by his wife, Doris Four sons, William F. Koski of Iron River, MI One daughter, Christine Kennedy of Iron River, MI One brother, Hershel (Karen) Nantelle of Crystal Falls, MI One sister-in-law, Corinne Holm of Crystal Falls, MI Eight grandchildren, Alex, Wayne, Christina, Michael, Christy, Kimberly, Shannon, and Melissa Four great grandchildren Visitation: Friday, February 27, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Memorial Service: Friday, February 27, 2009 at 4 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River with Pastor Dawn Treado-Green to officiate.
