Jack Holmes

Jack ""Pudge"" E. Holmes Age 87 Iron River, MIDied Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. Born: October 11, 1923 in Stambaugh, MI The son of the late Eynard and Ina (Salmi) Holmes attended the Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1941. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1941 to 1942. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943, serving in the South Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed at the Nolingberg Bakery for 13 years and later worked at the Sherwood mine for over 25 years prior to his retirement in 1980. Jack married the former Lillian Trevarton on April 26, 1947 in Iron River, and the couple made their home in Stambaugh. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1997. Lillian preceded him in death in 2001. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Iron River, American Legion Reino Post # 21, and the VFW. He was an avid hockey player and enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage and going to camp at Brule Lake. He was actively involved at the Legion, and enjoyed watching all kinds of sports. He was also preceded in death by his son, Thomas, grandson, Thomas, brothers Glen, Russell, Jerry and Bennett Holmes and sisters Marcella Larson, Dawn Halada and Joan Nardi. He is survived by his son, Michael (Debbie) Holmes of Ironwood, MI Daughter, Patti (Ron) Leonoff of Iron River Brother Ron (Bev) Holmes of Iron River Two sisters; Roselyn (Carl) Johnson of Iron River Hazel (Bob) Clements of Arkansas Two grandchildren; Brenda Ozog and Kevin Leonoff Three great grandchildren; Courtney, Tiffany and Anthony Ozog Numerous nieces and nephews Visitation: Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, with Rev. Kevin Kaiser to officiate.
