Jack D. Swanson, Jr.

Jack D. Swanson, Jr., age 62, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023. He was born on February 10, 1961, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Jack and Patricia (DeMour) Swanson, Sr. Jack attended West Iron County Schools, graduating from West Iron County High School with the class of 1979. He went on to attend Gogebic Community College and Northern Michigan University, earning an associate degree and two bachelor’s degrees. Jack married Jayne M. Waino on July 30, 1988, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iron River. They celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in 2003. Jayne preceded him in death on August 28, 2003. He was employed as a teacher and coach at Forest Park in Crystal Falls, MI. Jack enjoyed collecting cards and sports memorabilia, playing games, listening to his extensive music collection, drawing and spending time with his dogs, Monster and Yeti. He loved to play and coach sports, go fishing, gardening, and swimming in Lake Superior. Jack is survived by daughter, Chelsea (Kenton) Swanson; stepdaughter, Heather Bengry; sister, Renee (Ernie) Remondini; nieces, Ali and Angelina Remondini; special friends, Mark Weigand, Don Maki, and the Serbentas family; many cousins, extended family, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Erin Bengry, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Private family services will be held.
