Jack C. Tucker, age 92, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born on October 2, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN; the son of the late Clarence A. and Goldie (Eakman) Tucker. He attended and graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis, MN, with the Class of 1943. Jack then went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry. He was a proud United States Army Veteran, serving his country from 1951 until his honorable discharge, in 1953. Jack married Evelyn Arntson on December 29, 1951 in St. Paul, MN. They made their home in Duluth, Minnesota, before moving to Iron River for his work. The couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in the winter of 2017. He was employed as a forester for U.S. Steel for 30 years. After retiring, he continued as a private forestry consultant and earned his realtor’s license as well. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, volunteering at Fortune Lake Lutheran Bible Camp, along with his wife. He was also a member of the Society of American Foresters and served on the Stambaugh Township Zoning Board. Jack was very active in Boy Scouts for many years, having been a former Scout Master for Troop #521, member of The Order of the Arrow (a National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America), and recipient of The Lamb Award (awarded to Lutheran Adults who are leaders in the Boy Scouts of America). Jack and Evelyn also gave of their time to lend a helping hand at the Iron County Museum. He loved being outdoors, canoeing and especially camping in the Boundary Water’s area in Minnesota. Jack is survived by his wife, Evelyn; sons, Gerald (Vickie) Tucker of Iron, MN and Steven (Sue) Tucker of St. George, UT; daughters, Sharon (Mike) Dedo of Iron River, MI, Barbara (Bob Fox) Tucker of Virginia, MN, and Carol (Bernie) Timbrook of Monroe, GA; sister, Maxine Pillsbury of Galesburg, IL; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Avery Carr to officiate.
