James “Jim” Leonard Anderson, age 95, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
Jim was born on November 17, 1930, in Stambaugh, Michigan, the firstborn of Leonard and Lucille (Durand) Anderson. He graduated from Iron River High School in 1948 and went on to serve in the United States Army.
A man of deep faith and strong morals, Jim was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. He spent his working life as a skilled carpenter and was a proud member of the Michigan Carpenters Union.
On July 12, 1952, Jim married Geneva Elam at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Together they built a life firmly rooted in Iron River, where Jim was born and lived for more than nine decades, until moving to Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford, Michigan, in 2024.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Geneva; three daughters, Brenda (Larry) Anderson-Baker of Bozeman, Montana, Sharon (Mike) Warner of Litchfield, Michigan, and Barbara (Tom) Mancill of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Sarah Warner, Ben (Caroline Tipton) Warner, and Katie (Tim) Muller; and one great-grandson, Calvin Muller. He is also survived by two sisters, Nancy Anderson of Iron River and Mary Beth Sanneman of Nashua, New Hampshire, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Anderson, in 2024.
He was never happier than during the forty years he spent at his Beechwood home, a place that had been part of his life since his childhood and that helped turn him into a keen outdoorsman. A hunter, fisherman, and trapper, there was never a season that kept him indoors. He truly believed he was living in the best place on earth.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford for the care and kindness shown to Jim during his final years and to the warm and professional staff at Marshfield Dickinson Hospital. Special thanks to Marilyn Lutz, a dear friend and helper during his time in Kingsford.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River.
