James F. Barry

James Barry, age 79, of Iron River, MI , passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 at U.P. Health System - Marquette.  He was born July 27, 1936 in Bates Township, the son of the late Henry and Hazel (Nyren) Barry.   He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the Class of 1954. He was employed as a Parts Clerk by D. A. McPherson for many years. James married the former Naomi Robinson on March 13, 1954 at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, and the couple celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this year.   He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River where he sang in the choir, the Iron County Fair Board, and the Beechwood Historical Society. He served as a 4-H leader for over 40 years, and was very involved as a coach and mentor in sports for many years.  You could always see him at all home Wykon sports events. An Avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed farming. James is survived by his wife, Naomi; daughter, Gloria Nantelle of Crystal Falls; sons, John (Debra) Barry of Gulliver, MI, David (Pam) Barry of Iron River; grandchildren, Jason Nantelle, Justin (Katie) Nantelle, Dena (Chris) Bellini, Daniel (Nastasha) Reinke, Brian (Brianna) Reinke, John Barry Jr, and Kevin Barry; two great granddaughters. He was also preceded in death by his infant son, Gordon Barry, sister, Grace Westman, and son-in-law, George Nantelle. Visitation will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River. Funeral services follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. LaVonne Stephenson to officiate. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons, Jason and Justin Nantelle and Brian and Dan Reinke.
