James M. Flanigan, Jr.

James Michael Flanigan, Jr., 80, of Sturgeon Bay, WI and Tavernier, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 26, 2025, in Iron River, MI.

He was born on April 15, 1945, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late James M. and Helen (Bartins) Flanigan, Sr. He attended the West Mifflin, PA Schools, graduating from West Mifflin High School with the class of 1963. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 1967.

James married Susan Moudy on June 1, 1968, in Lancaster, PA at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this year.

After college, James was drafted by the Green Bay Packers and played with them for 3 ½ years. He later played for the New Orleans Saints. After retiring from the NFL, he owned and operated Whispering Sands Resort in Sturgeon Bay, WI with his family. He also owned and operated Flanigan Distributing Inc. for nearly 50 years.

James was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay and the former president of the Green Bay Chapter of the NFL Players Association. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing.

James is survived by his wife, Susan; children, James Michael(Mary Alene) Flanigan, III of Green Bay, WI, Kathleen “Kelly” Elizabeth Flanigan of Green Bay, WI, and Brian Patrick Flanigan of Sturgeon Bay, WI; grandchildren, Isabella (Sam) Fonder, Nathaniel Bazaldua, Gabriel Bazaldua, Eleanor Flanigan, James Flanigan, Richard Flanigan, Brie Flanigan, and Evin Flanigan; sister, Eileen (Leo) Patterson of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law, Barbara (Andris) Anuzis; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
