James “Bucky” Garavet, age 86, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born on October 15, 1935, in Caspian, MI, the son of the late Caesar and Margaret (Aldegarie) Garavet. Bucky attended and graduated from Stambaugh Schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Bucky married Lois Autio on August 31, 1957, and the couple celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in 2014. Lois preceded him in death on March 31, 2015. He was employed as a lineman with AT&T. Bucky was a member of First Lutheran Church in Iron River and the Communication Workers of America. He enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing, and hunting. Bucky loved to work in the woods, helping people, and going out for breakfast. He was also an avid Packer fan. Bucky is survived by his son, Greg (Sherry) Garavet of Iron River, MI; sister, Elizabeth Petroff of Crystal Falls, MI; grandchildren, J.C. (Abby) Garavet, Brandon (Angie) Garavet, Amanda (Phillip Meyer) Garavet, Zac Garavet, Nick Garavet, Kailey (Zane Sarafiny) Garavet, and Marcus Baumler; 11 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, Camden Dyamond; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends He was also preceded in death by his son, James Garavet II; daughter, Lisa Baumler; brother, Pete Garavet; and sisters, Rosie Sherwood and Delores Book. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
