James E. “Jim/Rocko” LaRock, age 73, of Iron River, MI, passed away July 7, 2021, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born December 19, 1947 in Iron River, MI, the son of the late Ralph and Henrietta “Effie” (Pascoe) LaRock. Jim attended Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the class of 1966. He then attended and graduated from Ferris State University as a Certified Public Accountant. He married the love of his life, the former Ginger Tuominen on June 26, 1981 at the First Presbyterian Church in Iron River. The couple celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in 2020. Ginger preceded him in death on February 2, 2021. He was employed as a Chief Financial Officer for Krist Oil Company for 34 years. Jim was a member of the Iron River Country Club, the NRA, and was a former member of the Iron River Elks Lodge #1671. He enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, and traveling with Ginger. Their abundant travels took them all across the country with many wonderful trips to Lake Tahoe and Florida. They visited many golf courses, casinos, and sporting events. Jim was a proud Papa and made many trips to Illinois to see his grandchildren. He was so proud of his granddaughters and was there to support them through many major accomplishments. You could always find him living life to the fullest with Ginger, amongst family and friends, or with the crew at Sach’s. Unless his beloved Lions were playing the Packers, in which case he preferred to watch alone. Jim is survived by his daughters, Charmaine M. (Brian) Sims of Grant Park, IL and Michelle LaRock of Pocatello, Idaho; granddaughters, Alexis Sims of Grant Park, IL and Sierra (fiancée Haydon Karstensen) Sims of Beecher, IL; grandson, Zachary Hughes; great-grandchild, Reese Karstensen of Beecher, IL; sisters-in-law, Charlene (Allan) Anderson of Crystal Falls, MI, Germaine (Stanley) Bjork of Gwinn, MI, and Kathy LaRock of Kingsford, MI; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert and Ralph ‘Tommy’ LaRock, and granddaughter, Evann Crow. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River with Deacon Terry Verville to officiate.
