James R. Mcquown

James ""Dusty"" R. McQuown, age 86, Iron River(formerly Stambaugh), died Friday July 11, 2008 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. Born: April 24, 1922 in Stambaugh, MI The son of the late Russell and Muriel (Greig) McQuown was a lifelong resident. He attended the Stambaugh schools and graduated from Stambaugh High school in 1940. He then attended the University of Illinois, Chicago for two years. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II. While in the army he was in the U.S. Army Band Fort Sheridan, under the direction of Wayne King. After his honorable discharge he returned to Stambaugh and was a self employed musician. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Iron River and for 60 years was a member of the American Legion Reino Post #21. Survived by his brother; Barrett ""Earl"" (Andrea) McQuown of Iron River, step-sister, Dorothy (Earl) Knivella of Hagerman Lake, Stambaugh Twp, MI niece, Tracy and nephew James McQuown There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at the Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River, with the West Side Veterans to accord military rites. The date and time to be announced.
