James S. Penkivech, age 86, of Stambaugh, MI, died Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Rennes Health and Rehab Center of Rhinelander, WI. He was born March 10, 1928 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Frank and Anna (Rusinek) Penkivech. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1946. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. James married the former Joan Thomas on August 28, 1954 and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. Joan preceded him in death. James was employed by Hannah Mining Co and Lakehead Pipeline. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his hunting camp. He also cherished the years he had his dog, Chase, as his trusty companion. He is survived by his sons, Donald Penkivech of Glendora, NJ, and James (Cheryl) Penkivech of Miltona, MN; daughter, Lori (Richard) Kopischke of Rochester, MN; brothers, Frank (Jean) Penkivech of Lansing, MI, and Tony Penkivech of Stambaugh; four grandchildren, Dana (Jessica) Penkivech, Apple Valley, MN, Mark Penkivech, Apple Valley, MN, Justin Kopischke, Rochester, MN, Jakob Penkivech, Philadelphia, PA; one great granddaughter, Madelynn Penkivech; nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Martin, and Ted Penkivech. Private family services will be held. Memorials can be sent to the American Diabetes Society
