James A. Sartorelli, age 86, of Gaastra, MI, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at Aspirus Hospital, Wausau, WI. He was born August 13, 1929 in Gaastra, MI, the son of the late Feno and Aurelia (Eagloski) Sartorelli. He attended the Palatka and Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School. Following graduation, he attended college in Milwaukee, WI, for two years. James was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Combat Medal and Purple Heart Medal. He owned and operated Sartorelli Builders for over 35 years. James married the former Shirley L. Halstead on December 17, 1966 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Gaastra, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in 2015. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, the American Legion, and DAV. He enjoyed carpentry work, hunting, fishing, going to church and especially spending time with his grandchildren. James is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Thad (Jenny) Sartorelli of Iron River; daughters, Anna (Scott) Bray and Mareia (Randy) Clements, both of Gaastra; eleven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jude, on December 21, 2010, brother, Kenneth, and sister, Joan. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Jeffery Kurtz to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the service. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring.
