James “Jim” L. Stolberg, 84, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
He was born on January 8, 1942, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Lambert G. and Delvina (O’Donell) Stolberg. Jim attended and graduated from the Stambaugh Schools, with the Class of 1960. He was employed as Foreman by Wisconsin Electric for 38 years.
Jim married the former Dorothy Sawicky on August 17, 1963, at the Assumption Church of Iron River and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year.
He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, West Iron County Fire Board, Iron County Fair Board, Classic Farm Machinery of Iron County, and Upper Peninsula Horse Association. Jim enjoyed working on his hobby farm and collecting tractors.
In years past, Jim was recognized as Outstanding Young Man by the Elks Lodge, Agri-Business Award by the Kiwanis Club, Friend of 4-H and recently awarded Friend of the Fair.
Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Tammy (Laurie) Mehlberg of Gaastra, MI; granddaughter, Pam Stolberg of Iron River, MI; brother, Daniel Stolberg of Iron River, MI; sisters, Bonnie (Jim) Talerico of Spread Eagle, WI and Dawn Margoni of Crystal Falls, MI; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Gary Sarafiny and nephew, Gary Sarafiny Jr.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Fosu to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will be in Bates Township Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to either the Classic Farm Machinery of Iron County or the Iron County Museum in Jim’s memory.
