Jane Elizabeth Johnson Holm of Bates Township, aged 96, died February 15th, 2024. Jane was born on March 29, 1927, in Bates Township, Michigan, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Blomquist) Johnson. She attended the Bates Township School through the 10th grade and graduated from the Iron River High School with the class of 1945. Jane graduated from the Augustana Child Nursing School of Chicago in 1946 and worked in home childcare in Chicago. She returned to Iron River a short time later and was then employed as a telephone operator. She married Morries Holm at the First Lutheran Church, on June 25, 1949, in Iron River. They celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in 1981. In 1950 she and Morries owned and operated the Holm Cash Market in Bates Twp. In 1958 she and Morries had a new house built in Bates Township, and she resided there until going into the Iron River Care Center in September 2020. She had been an active member at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, serving several terms on the council, teaching Sunday school, and was the Senior choir director for 25 years, as well as a leader/member of Women's circles and groups. “Miss Jane” also conducted Bible studies at the Mission Bible Training Center in Gaastra, MI for 25 years, and helped out with sales at their annual rummage sale. Jane enjoyed spending time at Sunset Lake and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. She was also preceded in death by her husband Morries in August of 1981; daughter Maureen Wilson; son Gale Holm; brother, Raymond Johnson; and sisters, Delores Woons and Carol Devroy. Surviving are her three sons, Dale (Jo) and Steve (Kathy), both of Iron River, and Bruce (Kelly) of Ishpeming, MI; son-in-law, Sam Wilson of Abrams, WI; and daughter-in-law, Shelia Holm of Iron River. Jane is also survived by grandchildren Amijane Wilson, Aaron Wilson, Sara Starr, Becky (Adam) Ahola, Brian Holm, Jason Holm, Jenn Secord, Micheal Cina, Megan, Mary, Margret, Morries, Christopher Holm, and great-grandchildren David, Brody, Noah, Eden, Mason, Reese, Will, Jackson, Scarlett, Allison, and Lee; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the First Lutheran Church A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Vicar Lance Crevier to officiate. Interment will be in Bates Cemetery this spring.
