Janet C. Helsius

Janet C. Helsius, age 87, of Trout Creek, MI, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at the Iron River Care Center. She was born on April 1, 1935, in Gwinn, MI, the daughter of late Gordon and Bertha (Vertanen) Vercoe, Sr. Janet attended the Ishpeming Schools, graduating from Ishpeming High School with the class of 1953. She then completed the LPN program at Northern Michigan University. Janet married David Helsius, Sr. on June 25, 1955, in Ishpeming, MI. The couple celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in 2009. David preceded her in death in 2009. She was employed as an LPN at several hospitals and nursing homes during her career, as well as running two adult foster care homes. Janet was a member of the Greenland Seventh Day Adventist Church. She loved tending to her flower gardens, swimming, and going on picnics. Janet wanted to be remembered as being a good nurse and good mother. Janet is survived by her sons, Jonathon Helsius of Trout Creek, MI, Jeffrey (Virginia) Helsius of Trout Creek, MI, Cory (Diane) Helsius of Henderson, NV, David (Darlene) Helsius of Ohio; daughter, Kerri (Mark) Castleberg of Escanaba, MI; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; extended family and friends.
