Jean Lindbeck, age 87, of Iron River, MI, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, Michigan. Jean was born January 12, 1930 in Hancock, MI, the daughter of the late Norman and Betty (Lindeman) Benson. She was a lifelong resident of the area. Jean attended the Bates and Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1947. In 1948 she married Lionel "Lindy" Lindbeck in Ironwood, MI and the couple made their home at Sunset Lake in Bates Township. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1998. Jean was a member of Grace Covenant Church and a member of the Choir and Covenant Women. She was also a 4-H leader of the Sunset Circle 4-H Club for many years and was very active in the Bates Boosters. She was secretary of the Bates School Board. Jean was a charter member of the Carrie Jacobs Bond Quilters. She was a member of the Iron County Historical and Museum Society. Jean was superintendent at the Iron County Fair in the Arts and Crafts and Photo Division. She was Eagles Mother of the Year. She was ‘Woman of the Century’ in 1985 for the Bates Township Centennial. For many years, Jean was employed at JC Penney in Iron River. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindy in 2004, her brothers, Norman and Chester Benson; sister, Mona Sarder; grandchildren, Alan, Reagan and Morgan Jean Lindbeck. Jean is survived by her daughter, Kathy Robinson of Luxemburg, WI, her son, Richard "Rick" (Marilyn) Lindbeck of Iron River, daughters, Julie Strong (Ray Landseidel) of Woodridge, IL and Nancy (Douglas) Meyer of Huachuca City, AZ; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Jean is also survived by her sister, Carol (Keith) Erickson, brother, Cornel (Pauline) Benson, sisters, Avie (Ron) Powell, all of Iron River, and Anncille (Bob) Engel of Oconto Falls, WI.; by her brother-in-law, Don Sarder, and sisters-in-law, Ginny Benson and Bobbie Lindbeck, all of Iron River, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Grace Covenant Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Trevor James and Pastor James Swanson II to officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Carrie Jacobs Bond Quilters at the Windsor Center, 612 W. Adams Street; Iron River, MI 49935.
