Jean Grant Maki passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 after a tragic house fire. She was born May 17, 1956 in Stambaugh, MI, to the late Robert Grant and Barbara (Bob) Goodman. Jean was employed by Aspirus Hospital in Iron River for over 20 years. She was an active member of American Legion Reino Post #21, VFW Ottawa Post #3134 Auxiliary and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Iron River. Jean lost her husband Simon “Bruce” Maki too soon (2011) and her son Christopher sooner yet (2003). She was a lover of dogs of any kind, a woman who would give you the shirt off her back plus four others, and if any of your friends needed one, she had four spare for each of them. She always had a smile, always said, “I Love You”, and had hugs for everyone and loved getting hugs in return. You would never go hungry if you were anywhere near Jeannie. Her door was always open. She loved to share a drink with friends and sit around the campfire (and she knew how to make one too). Jean was always there for friends and family and she loved spending time with each of them. She enjoyed cooking, camping, gardening, knitting, crocheting, playing games, but mostly spending time with family and friends and her dog, Toivo. In addition to her husband Simon “Bruce” Maki and son, Christopher (Sarah) Maki, she was also preceded in death by her father, Robert Grant, and brother, Ed Grant. Jean is survived by her mother, Barbara (Bob) Goodman of Falls City, OR; granddaughter, Olivia Grant of Portsmouth, VA; brothers, Ken Grant of Iron River, Michael (Mary Jo) Grant of Negaunee, MI, and Robert “Robbie” Grant of Atlanta, GA; sister, Janet (Dale) Melstrom of Iron River; step-sisters, Brenda (Bob) Eagan of Dallas. OR, and Laura (Shawn) Gransbery of Vancouver, WA; 11 nieces, 7 nephews, 16 great nieces, and 8 great nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Steckling to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
