Jean Ann Olsen Age 83 Gaastra, MIDied Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI Born: October 19, 1927 in Iron River City, Michigan The daughter of the late Herman and Ruth Ann (Greig) Olsen attended the Gaastra and Stambaugh Schools. She graduated from Waukegan, IL High School with the Class of 1945. She then attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor's in Education. She received her Masters Degree in Education in 1970 from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI. Jean was a teacher employed for nearly 40 years for the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, retiring in 1995. After retirement she returned to Gaastra to the family farm to make her home. Jean was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She traveled to Norway with her Aunt Neva Swanberg. She was very generous in her donations to many charities and she enjoyed volunteering at the Iron County Museum, LeBlanc Art Gallery in Caspian. Jean was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Iron River and a member of the (MARSP) Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. She was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Bruce Diamond. She is survived by half-brother, Stanton (Joann) Diamond of Downers Grove, IL Three half-sisters, Carol Benz of Hoffman Estates, IL Eulalie Ringe, Colorado Springs, CO Susan Diamond of New Bern, NC Nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family Memorial Service: Monday, July 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Iron River, with Rev. Bonny Kinnunen and Rev Dawn Treado Green to officiate. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, MI.
