Jean J. Ross

Jean J. Ross, age 96, of Iron River, passed away October 17, 2016, at the Freeman Nursing Home, in Kingsford, Michigan. Jean was born July 21, 1920 in Iron River, MI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Angela (Nori) Vaccari. She attended the Stambaugh Schools and graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1938, where she was Vice President of her class. Jean married Lawrence P. Ross on August 9, 1947 in at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Caspian, MI and the couple made their home in Stambaugh, MI. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1997. Lawrence preceded her in death on May 3, 2003. She was employed at the Commercial Bank of Stambaugh and later worked at the Iron River Coleman Products Plant. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, the St Agnes Altar Society, and the Iron River Country Club. She enjoyed golfing and was devoted to her family and loved her grandchildren. Jean is survived by her sons, Larry (Diane) Ross of Iron Mountain, MI and Steve (Nancy) Ross of Nashville, IN; twin, Josephine Singler of Iron River; grandchildren, Katie, Kristi, Andrew, Leah, Austin, Chad, and Shelby; great grandson, Merrick. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, Louis, Angelo and Leo Vaccari; sisters, Mary Kopenski and Rita Donelson. Visitation will be Friday, October 21, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River with Father Jose Maramattam to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River. The family would like to thank the staff at the Hyland and Freeman Nursing Homes for the loving care they provided for Jean.
