Jean A. Russell

Jean A. Russell, age 94, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Victorian Heights in Crystal Falls, MI. She was born on April 23, 1927, in Iron River, MI, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Flora (Oss) Johnson. She attended the Bates and Rogers schools, then graduated from the Washington High School in Milwaukee, WI, with the Class of 1945. She then attended the University of Michigan Nursing School, becoming a registered nurse. Jean worked as an RN for a number of years before moving on to work as a school secretary/nurse and after as a secretary for the Town of Norway Sanitary District. She truly enjoyed this line of work. Jean married George Russell on September 24, 1949 in Iron River. They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in 1996. He preceded her in death in 1996. Jean, a Master Gardener, enjoyed working in her gardens and being outside and as a talented artist, she loved working on arts and crafts. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, playing bridge and lunching with her Red Hat Society club members. Most of all she enjoyed laughing and spending time with her family and many friends. She is survived by her son, Scott (Marcia) Russell of Racine, WI; daughter, Sherry (Nick) Carter of Indianapolis, IN and her dear nephew, Russell (Judy) Johnson and their family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Johnson. Private family services will be held.
