Jeanette A. Mastie, age 80, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on May 17, 1941, in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Walter “Shorty” and Alma (Juliuson) Hookenson. She attended the Iron River Schools and later earned her diploma from the Tecumseh, MI High School in 1992. Jeanette married Stanley Mastie on October 26, 1957, at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church in Iron River. The couple celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in 2021. Stanley preceded her in death on January 4, 2022. She was employed as an assembly line worker at Ford Motor Co. Jeanette volunteered at Herrick Hospital in Tecumseh, accumulating over 7200 hours over the years. She played cards with the hospital auxiliary and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, spending time with her grandchildren, and was an avid Bingo player. She liked shopping and was known as the Minnie Pearl of clothes. Jeanette is survived by her daughters, Geralyn Mastie and Cynthia (James Duncan) Couchene, both of Iron River, MI; daughter-in-law, Shelley Mastie of Grand Ledge, MI; brother, Kenneth (Sue) Hookenson of Iron River, MI; sister, Beth (Tom) Banks of Iron River, MI; grandchildren, Nicole (Aric) Minney, Rachel (Brandon) Wessel, Lindsay (Mike) Pelette, and Melissa (Sam) Allen; great grandchildren, Theodore and Lucille Minney, Charlotte Wessel, Abigail and Lucas Allen, and Nathan and Emily Pelette; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Mastie and sister, Linda Angeloff; sons-in-law, Timothy Bredernitz, and Joseph Couchene. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A memorial service will follow at noon with Dawn Robbins to officiate.
