Jeanette C. Sliva, age 87, of Crystal Falls, MI, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. Jeanette was born on March 21, 1931 in Stambaugh, MI; the daughter of the late Tillio and Mary (Rosa) Ponosso. She was a lifelong resident of the area. Jeanette attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1950. She married Harold Sliva on May 10, 1958 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. They celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary in 1980. Harold preceded her in death on July 23, 1980. The couple owned and operated the former Harold’s Tavern in Crystal Falls from 1968 to 1982. She also worked at the Crystal Manor, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls, the Tufts-Rondon VFW Post #2891 Auxiliary, and the Dickinson County Humane Society. She loved animals, especially her cats, and listening to country music. Jeanette is survived by her cousins, Dennis Broswavic, John Rosa, Mike Rosa, Fr. Tom Rosa, Laura Slawner, and Lewis Rosa; her caregiver, Bonnie Fredricks; and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a special friend, Aldo Zaupa. Visitation will be Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral service will be follow at 11 am at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls with Fr. Daniel Malone to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, MI in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Northwoods Animal Shelter, 930 Selden Road, Iron River, MI 49935.
