John C. Collins

John C. Collins, age 80, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.     He was born on April 4, 1938 in Gaastra, MI, the son of the late John and Sophie Comienski. He attended the Gaastra School and graduated from Stambaugh High School.  John served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He was employed as a carpenter, specializing in cabinetry and he also worked as a mechanic.  He enjoyed woodworking, tending to his flowers and his garden, working on his truck, and spending time with his dogs. John is survived by his fiancée, Joy Jacobs of Iron River and her children, Michael and Matthew Mitchell and Jonathan Parker; Joy’s siblings, Jody and Joseph Parker, Jill Albanys, and Jana Parker; friends, Jane Butler, Chuck and Cindy, and Steve.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Zigmund, and Henry Comienski and sisters, Julie Norberg and Florence Block.  Private family services will be held. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.  The West Side Veterans will accord military rites at the graveside in the spring.  To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of John C.
