John ""Jack"" Delago, age 83 of Caspian, MI, died Wednesday August 19, 2009 at his home. Born: October 5, 1925 in Caspian, MI The son of the late Cornelius and Juliette (Drolette) Delago was one of four sons. Jack graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Army serving during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Topographic Engineers 648. He was a recipient of the Meritorious Unit Award, American Theater Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and worked with his father and brother in the family business, ""Delago's Garage"" in Caspian retiring in 1983. He married the former Dorothy Cieciorka May 29, 1948 at the Assumption Catholic Church, Iron River and the couple made their home in Caspian. They celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary in May. Jack was actively involved in the community where he was a member of the Caspian Fire Dept. for 30 years, was a Deputy Sheriff serving under Sheriff Sandri, served on the board of the Caspian Community Center and Spring Valley Housing, Caspian City Commissioner from 2000 to 2007, American Legion Reino Post 21, VFW Ottawa Post 3134 and Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, and the Progressive Men. He loved to travel and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also preceded in death by brothers; Robert and Con Delago. Survived by his wife Dorothy Sons; John (Chris) Delago, Wausau, WI Gary (Jan) Delago , Phoenix, AZ Grandchildren; Jason, Jennifer, and Shanon Great grandson, Jesse Brother, Pierre Delago, Fort Meyers, FL Nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation: Friday August 21, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Caspian MI. The Firefighters of the Iron County Fireman's Association will attend the visitation in body at 10:30 a.m. Funeral service: Friday August 21, 2009 at 12:00 noon at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian with the Rev. Norman Clisch, Pastor to offer the Mass of Christian Burial The West Side Veterans Council will accord Military Rites The family suggests memorials to the Northstar Hospice.
