John L. Hemeleski Age 90 Iron River, MIdied Thursday October 13, 2011 at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Medical Center, Iron Mtn., MI Born: December 18, 1920 in Iron River, MI The son of the late Walter and Bernice (Novassautka) Hemeleski was a lifelong resident. He attended the Iron Lake School and Iron River High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WW II in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theatre. He married the former Dora Bartolini June 7, 1947 in Crystal Falls, MI and the couple made their home at Iron Lake. The couple celebrated their 41st Wedding anniversary. Dora preceded him in death Oct. 12, 1988. He was employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Company as a welder at the Homer Wauseca Mine for 33 years retiring in 1981. John was an avid fisherman, hunter, outdoorsman who enjoyed riding on his four wheeler. John's passion was his garden. He started his seeds and in early spring transferred them to the greenhouse he built. He was known to share his garden vegetables with friends and family. He also spent time canning his garden vegetables. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ray and Stanley and granddaughter Alexandra Hemeleski. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and former member of the Assumption Catholic Church, St. Mary's Club and the VFW Ottawa Post #3134. Survived by his son Michael (Judith) Hemeleski of Iron River Daughter, Jean (Pat) Sartori of Culpeper, VA Sister, Stavy Brunelli of Neenah, WI Four Grandchildren, Robert and Katarina Hemeleski and John and Bethany Sartori. One Great Granddaughter Eleanor Nieces, nephews and extended family Visitation: Wednesday October 19, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service; Wednesday October 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
