John F. Kahl, age 71 of Long Lake, WI, died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI. Born: April 17, 1938 in Prairie Farm, WI The son of the late Athly and Lorena (Hutchison) Kahl attended the Prairie Farm Elementary School and graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1956. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1961 to 1963. John married the former Lynn Selle on September 9, 1967 in Clayton WI and celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary this year. John was employed as a machine shop supervisor by Lauson Engine in New Holstein, WI prior to entering the U. S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to his job at Lauson, retiring in 1984 after working 27 years for the company. Following his retirement, the couple purchased the General Store in Long Lake, operating it as Kahl's General Store until 1996 when they sold the store. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Tipler, WI, a long time member and EMT of the Long Lake - Tipler Rescue Squad, member and former Fire Chief of the Long Lake Fire Department, and long time member of the Big 4 Sportsmen Club of Long Lake. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Sons; Christian (Kelly) Kahl of Iron River Nathan (Tanya) Kahl of Long Lake Daughter, Michelle (Matthew) Gustafson of Superior, WI Four granddaughters; Hannah, Lauren and Alexandra Gustafson and Breanna Kahl Two brothers; William Kahl Leonard Kahl Five sisters; Georgianna Modtland Sonia Stephanie Madge Henschel Madeline Smith Sheila Roepcke Numerous nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his brother Athly and sisters Gloria Holldorf and Gayle Austinson. Visitation: Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
