John F. Myefski

John F. Myefski, 85, of Iron River, MI, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Northstar Health System of Iron River. He was born October 5, 1927 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Casimir and Felicia (Dzarnowski) Myefski. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1946. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He earned his Bachelor 's Degree in Education from Northern Michigan University, Marquette, MI. After teaching in Niagara, John was employed by Ford Motor Credit Company for many years, and retired for health reasons. He later worked at the Community Action Agency of Iron River. John married the former Joyce Huss-Valesano on January 9, 1982 in Iron River and the couple celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary this year. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and choir of Iron River. Gardening and cooking were his passion, and he loved working on his family home and grounds. He especially enjoyed singing to and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Sister M. Augusta, William Myefski, Charles Myefski, Bernice Bedwell, Alex Myefski, Anne Larkin, Frank Myefski, Joseph Myefski, and Barbara Konopacke. John is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Mark (Linda) Valesano and Gerard (Christine) Valesano of Crystal Falls; daughters, Corinne (Chris) McNamara of Grand Ledge, MI, Joy (Tom) Stachowicz of Crystal Falls, Marla (Eric) Shamion of Iron River, and LuAnn (Curt LaFrancis) Valesano of Iron River; brother, Louis (Joan) Myefski of Marquette, MI; his special grandchildren who were so dear to him, Marci, Toni, Christian, Katie, Chrissy, Thomas, Mick, Maria, Josh, Niki, Jessica, Jacob, Jordan, Danica, Lacey, Bristol, and Michael; great granddaughter, Kailyn; nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation will be held Friday, September 20, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites following the funeral service. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
