John E. Omillian

John E. Omillian, age 77, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI. He was born on April 20, 1944, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late William and Irene (Koponen) Omillian. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School. He was an Airfield Management Supervisor in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1982 after 20 years of service. Throughout his career, John was stationed in Japan, Thailand, Okinawa, Vietnam, and Korea. John married Mieko Kimura on September 17, 1970 in Tokyo, Japan. The couple made their home in Iron River after retiring. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in 2021. He was a member of the U.P. River Church in Iron River. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and reading. John is survived by his wife, Mieko; son, Michael (Mary) Omillian of Two Rivers, WI; daughter, Katherine Omillian of Lansing, MI; grandson, Matthew Omillian; brothers, Wayne Omillian of Kansas City, MO and Budd (Karen) Omillian of Spring, TX; sister, Evelyn (Tom) Stern of New London, WI; nieces, nephew, extended family and friends. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor James Pellizzer to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
