John A. Salo

Mr. John A. Salo, age 74, Iron River, MI died Friday, September 21, 2007 at his home after battling cancer for 15 years. Born: January 1, 1933, Iron River, MI The son of the late Carl and Sadie (Maki) Salo of Beechwood was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended the Iron River Schools and served with the U.S. Army. He married the former Violet Strom Alexa on June 30, 1983 in Iron River and the couple made their home in Iron River. He was employed by the Proksch Company for 30 years, retiring in 1983. During the winter months, he also worked at Ski Brule. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry, step-son, Casey Alexa, grandsons Mathew and Dallas Underwood Jr., and granddaughter Julie Remer. He is survived by his wife, Violet Daughters, Gaye (Ashley) Thomas of Iron Mountain, MI Patty Alexa Applin of Caspian Grandchildren: Jeffery John (Tabitha) Remer of Iron River Michael and Jesse Remer of Caspian Joshua and Courtney Alexa of Iron River Great grandson, Jeffery John Remer Jr. of Iron River Sister, Hilda Puskala of Iron River Private family services will be held.
