Mr. John ""Jack"" K. Singler, age 90 of Ion River, MI, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Northstar Health System, Iron River Born: October 27, 1918, Marquette, MI The son of the late John and Lyda (Kimber) Singler graduated from Iron River High School in 1936. He attended Northern Michigan University, then Michigan State University until he was drafted for the service in 1942, where he served with the U.S. Army Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued his education, graduating from Michigan State University in 1947. On June 25, 1949, Jack married the former Josephine Jean Vaccari. The couple would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary later this year. Jack was employed as an accountant for Morrison Audit Firm in Marquette for three years. He then moved to Iron River and worked for Proksch Lumber Company as the accountant. In 1958, he joined Clem Fleury and opened a business Fleury & Singler, CPA's in Iron Mountain, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, treasurer of the Iron River Country Club, founder and treasurer of the Rodeo for many years, member of the Sewer and Water Commission, and treasurer of George Young Recreation He was an avid horseman, hunter, and fisherman. He enjoyed driving his team of horses and sleigh through the snow covered streets of Iron River. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Nelson Stubli. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Two sons; John (Jean) Singler of Duluth, MN Charles (Jeanette) Singler of Ashland, WI One daughter, Mary (Joseph) Johnson of Scottville, MI Five Grandchildren: Emily (Tom) Karlen, John Singler, Peter (Laura) Singler, Scott Singler, and Tony Singler Six great grandchildren One brother, Donald (Betty) Singler, Appleton, WI Two sisters; Nora Mae Angeli of Iron River Shirley Lownik of Cleveland, OH Visitation: Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home. A Liturgical Prayer service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. and an Elks Lodge of Sorrow service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Funeral Service: Thursday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River, with Rev. Norman Clisch to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans will conduct Military Rites. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River, MI The family suggests donations to the Iron County Museum or the Iron River Elks Lodge. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
