John James ""Jim"" Timpani, age 87 of Gaastra, MI, died Tuesday November 24, 2009 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI Born September 15, 1922 in Beckley, WV The son of the late John and Maria (Lowery) Timpani attended the Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving on the USCG Cutter Bibb during WWII. Jim married the former Vernette Swanson on September 13, 1952 At St. Mary's Catholic Church of Gaastra and the couple made their home in Gaastra. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this year. He was employed as a painter by the M.A. Hanna Mining Company for 17 years, and after the closure of the local mines was a self-employed painter. Jim was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Gaastra, member of the Elks Lodge #1671 of Iron River, the American Legion Reino Post #21, the VFW Ottawa Post 3134, the DAV, served on the Iron County Veterans Board, and was active on the Firing Squad for all Military Services by the West Side Veterans. He enjoyed ice fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Anthony and Arthur. He is survived by his wife, Vernette Son, David (Jeanette) Timpani of Bethpaige, TN Daughter, Donna (Dave) Koski of Iron River Grandson, Joseph Nieces and nephews Visitation: Friday, November 27, 2009 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Services: Friday, November 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, with Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
