Joseph ""Joe"" A. Grant Age 84 Iron River, MI Passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. He was born December 22, 1928 in Republic, MI, the son of the late Joseph and Mathilda (Vadnais) Grant. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force and upon his honorable discharged, returned to Iron River. He was employed by the Inland Steel Mining Company working at the Sherwood Mine until his retirement when the mine closed. Joe was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, attending daily mass. He was also a former member of the Holy Name Society and was a church usher. Joe was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and was their Secretary-Treasurer for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Alfred Branchini American Legion Post #17, served on the St. Vincent DePaul 's Board as well as on the Site Committee for the Iron River Senior Citizens Center. He was an Iron River Volunteer Fireman, volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul 's and was active at the Senior Citizens Center for many years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Grant and sisters, Loretta Mitchell, Dorothy Gagne, Marjorie Lee, and Mae Webber. He is survived by his sister, Alice Campbell ( John Angeloff) of Iron River and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will form an honor guard at the visitation Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River, in the spring.
