Joseph A. Komblevicz

Joseph A. Komblevicz, age 88, of Iron Mountain, MI, formerly of Iron River, MI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. He was born on June 21, 1931 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Guzowski) Komblevicz. He attended and graduated from the Iron River Schools, with the Class of 1949. He attended Wayne State University from 1949 to 1953 where he played Football and Baseball. He is also a member of the Wayne State .400 Baseball Club. He was drafted into the Army in 1953 and served at Camp Gordan, Georgia until his honorable discharge in 1955. He started graduate school in 1955 at Wayne State University and received his Master’s Degree in Administration/Education. He taught at Russell Elementary School in Detroit and Parkman Elementary School on the West Side, retiring from teaching in 1986. Joseph moved to Iron Mountain in 1984 and has made his home in the area since that time. He was a member, contributor, and supporter of the Menominee Range Historical Museum and foundation Project for Restoration of WWII CG-4A Glider, Iron County Historical Museum, 2006 Endowment Fund, Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame, EEA Chapter 439, Iron Mountain and EEA Oshkosh, Camp Gibbs Historical Site, Air Force Museum Foundation, and Amateur Radio Ham. He was a former member of the American Federation of Teachers, and MARSP (Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel). He is survived by his sons, Joseph (Maria) of Bloomington, California, Craig of Allen Park, MI, Gary of Allen Park, MI, John (Lisa) of Neenah, WI; daughter, Cheryl (Frank) Cozzola of Douglas, MI ; sisters, Patricia (Don) Dietz of Ashland, WI, Sherry Wasielewski of Appleton, WI, Yvonne “Judy” Komblevicz of Iron River, MI; brothers, Donald (Kathy) Komblevicz of Milwaukee, WI , Leonard Komblevicz of Milwaukee, WI; aunt, Freda Hojnacki of Warren, MI; and a great grandchild, many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
