Joseph A. Moore, age 100, of Iron River, MI, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Iron River Care Center. He was born December 5, 1917, in Iron River, MI, the son of the late John and Josephine (Crymski) Moore. Joseph attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the Class of 1935. Joseph proudly served as a member of the 79th Infantry Division in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was involved in four major campaigns in Europe during his tour of duty, including the Normandy Invasion. Joseph was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with four bronze battle stars, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on October 6, 1945. Joseph married Catherine Carlotto on October 13, 1945 at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church of Crystal Falls. The couple celebrated their 72nd anniversary in 2017. He was employed as an office manager for the Caspian Construction Company for 30 years. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and enjoyed fishing in the local lakes, being outdoors, traveling, and taking trips to the casino. Joseph is survived by his wife, Catherine; son, Joseph J. (Bonnie) Moore of Fairborn, OH; daughters, Cathy (Robert) Revenaugh of East Tawas, MI, Jerilynn Lopez of Bay City, MI and Janet (Joseph) Moberg of Rapid River, MI; sister, Mary Ann James of Iron River, MI; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Diana Moore, brothers, Stanley and Frank Moore, and sister, Lenore Gibson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 9:00 to 10:45 am at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11am at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in Iron River. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
