Joseph Paraventi, age 91 of ""Bates Township"" Iron River, MI, died Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River. Born November 14, 1917 in Iron River, MI The son of the late Pasquali and Rose (Viti) Paraventi attended the Iron River schools, graduating from Iron River High School in 1935. After graduation, he joined the CC Camps. He first started in the mining industry with Pickands -Mather and then entered the Army. He was a WWII veteran, serving with the Combat Engineers in Sicily, Africa, and many parts of Europe for five years. When he returned from the service, he went to work for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company for ten years and was later employed by the Hanna Mining Company until his retirement. Joseph married the former Mathilda ""Tillie"" Husar on May 27, 1950 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River and the couple made their home in Bates Township. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 2000. He was a member of the American Legion Alfred Branchini Post #17 He was preceded in death by his twin brother Edward, and also two sisters, Ada and Eva. He is survived by his wife, Tillie One son, Joseph (Jo Ann) Paraventi of Ashland, WI Two daughters; Yvonne (Charles) Ayer of Homosassa, FL Roxanne (John) Melchiori of Crystal Falls, MI Two brothers; Peter (Ruth) Paraventi of Iron River Malio Paraventi of Howell, MI Six grandchildren Four great grandchildren Nieces and nephews Visitation: Friday, July 31, 2009 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Services: Friday, July 31, 2009 at 11a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River with Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites. Funeral Arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
