Joseph A. Sabol

Joseph “Joe” A. Sabol, age 71, of Caspian, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at his home. He was born March 17, 1945 in Stambaugh, MI , the son of the late John J. and Irma (Zorzin) Sabol.   He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1963. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving with Military Air Police. Joe married the former Edna Mae Falk on September 30, 1965at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2015. Joe was employed by the Iron County Road Commission for over 30 years, and started with the Caspian Fire Department on October 20, 1968, serving there for over 47 years. He also served as Commissioner and Mayor for the City of Caspian and was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, the Iron County Road Commission Board, the Downtown Development Authority of Caspian, the Stambaugh Cemetery Board, and the Spring Valley Housing Commission. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his brothers at deer camp. He was a die-hard Lions and Tigers fan. Joe is survived by his wife, Edna Mae, and brothers, Gary (Marilyn) Sabol of Caspian, and Robert (Patricia) Sabol of Sheboygan, WI, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Members of the West Side Firemen’s Association will do a walk through at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Michael Woempner of offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the service. Pallbearers will be Gary, Robert, Darren, and Kurt Sabol, Robert Putz, and Duane Lombardini. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring.
