Josephine Jean Singler, age 100, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI. Josephine was born on July 21, 1920 in Caspian, MI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Angela (Nori) Vaccari and remained a lifelong resident of the area. She attended and graduated from the Stambaugh Schools, with the Class of 1938. After high school, she went to the McDonough School of Business. She was employed by the Iron County Probate Court for several years. On June 25, 1949, she married Jack Singler at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian. They had three children – Jack (Jean) Singler of Duluth, MN, Mary Johnson (Bob Thurow) of Scottville, MI, and Charles (Jeannette) Singler of Ashland, WI; five grandchildren, six step grandchildren and many wonderful great grandchildren. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in 2008, before Jack preceded her in death on June 8, 2009. Josie enjoyed life! She was a fierce competitor in golf and played often at the Iron River Country Club as well as at George Youngs, where she got a hole-in-one. She loved playing cards too, whether it was Smear, Bridge, Cribbage or a game with the grandchildren. Later in life, she and Jack would play a game of cribbage each night after dinner. She was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church, past President of the Altar Society, Iron County Hospital Auxiliary, Rosary Sodality, Italian Ladies Society, and a 4-H Leader. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her twin, Jean Ross; brothers, Joseph, Angelo and Leo Vaccari; sisters, Mary LaBelle Kopenski and Rita Donelson. Memorial donations may be made to the Iron County Museum at PO Box 272, Caspian, MI 49915 or the Friends of the Duke of Abruzzi at PO Box 107, Caspian, MI, 49915. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 9:00 to 10:45am at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. Funeral service will follow at 11am at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River.
