Joyce Virginia (née Greig) Carne Holmes passed away October 28, 2020 at the Iron River Care Center at 102 years of age. She was born on September 8, 1918, the daughter of the late Alexander and Minnie (Borns) Greig. She graduated from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1936. Joyce was a lifelong resident of Iron River and the youngest of seven children. Her sisters, Mabel (Carl) Christensen, Florence (Pete) Marmanta, Ida (Don) Connors, Irene (Arnold) Kumrow, Lucille (Gustave) Stefan, and her brother, Clarence (Carla) Greig, preceded her in death. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church. Joyce was employed as a waitress/bartender for the Iron Inn, Roma Restaurant, Mertin’s Café, Sportsman’s Restaurant, Pikes Bar, and Dinner Bell Café for 20 years. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Myrna (née Carne) Masuga of Iron River; son, William (Ann) Carne of Republic, MI; and daughter-in-law, Virginia Carne of Crystal Falls, MI. She has nine grandchildren and their spouses, 26 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly and many nieces and nephews who adored her. She was also preceded in death by her son, Roger Carne and granddaughters, Cheryl and Terri. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A memorial service will follow at 11am with Dawn Robbins to officiate. Interment will be in the Iron River Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Iron River Care Center staff and Dr. Yard and Dr. Han for their loving care they have shown during her transition to be with our Lord.
