Joyce Smith, 67, of Alvin, WI, passed away Sunday, January 5th 2014 surrounded by her husband and children. She was born March 17, 1946 in Charlotte, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Andrew W. and Pearl M. (Lockhart) Shepherd. She attended the Long Lake, WI elementary school and Florence High School. Joyce married Reginald J. Smith on March 25, 1978 and the couple celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary in 2013. Over the years, she was employed at several restaurants in the Iron River and Tipler area. Her favorite was the Happy Italian. She loved interacting and visiting with the customers. She was also employed by the Lillian Kerr Nursing Care Facility. She cared for her patients with the same love and kindness she gave to all. She loved to go camping and made sure all of her grandchildren went camping with her over the years. She had a beautiful voice and would often sing and play the guitar for her family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and shared that gift with all who knew her. She loved to travel and see new places. She is survived by her husband, Reginald; son, Shad Smith of Texas; daughters, Ginger (Mark) Davis of Crystal Falls, MI, Vicki (Scott) Shamion of Hartland, WI, Tanda Lorenz of Phelps, WI; stepchildren, Jim Lorenz of Boyd, WI, Suzanne (Aaron) Erkel of MN, Sheryl Lorenz of IL, Don (Cheryl) Lorenz of WI; brothers, Thomas Shepherd of MS, Charles (Betty) Shepherd of WI, Ronald (Sharon) Shepherd of MO; sister, Helen Cockrell of MS; 18 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home with Pastor Della Rosenow to officiate. Interment will be in Shepherd Cemetery.
