Judith S. Bentley

Judith S. Bentley, 76, of Iron River, MI, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 following a lengthy illness with her family and close friends by her side. She was born February 20, 1939 in Iron River to Oliver and Mildred Luopa. Judy grew up close to her grandparents, Samuel and Hilda Luopa, who both migrated from Finland. She was especially fond of her grandmother Hilda and would often share childhood memories while visiting on their farm. She graduated from Iron River High School in 1957. She was a homemaker and supported her husband Pat in their trucking business. Judy married Keith “Pat” Bentley on April 4, 1965, and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary this year. She was an active member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and her passion was serving others as a Ladies-Aid Member for many years, and participating in Bible Study. Her interests included family/friends, knitting, reading, and stock car racing. She was a #1 Fan of her son Putch Bentley’s stock car racing career (Car #12). And in her younger years would often participate as a pit crew member. She was also an avid animal lover. Judy is survived by her husband, Pat of Iron River; sister, Gail Gustafson of Iron River; two daughters, Tammy (Harry) Weng of Iron River and Terry (John) Howard of Escondido, CA; one son, Thor “Putch” Bentley of Iron River. She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Patty Bentley and Shari Bentley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Mildred Luopa and her stepson, Keith Bentley. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Iron River with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
