Julia ""Julie"" A. McDonald, 83, of Iron River, MI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI. She was born September 29, 1930 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Walter and Julia (Turoski) Dabeck. She attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the Class of 1948. She furthered her education at Northern Michigan University, Marquette, MI, for two years. She was employed as a music teacher at the Gaastra School for two years, and the Bates School for two years. Julie married Donald ""Don"" McDonald on October 6, 1951 at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this year. Julie was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, St. Cecilia Choir, lead organist for St. Cecilia, member of Carrie Jacobs-Bond Singers, and Director of the Northland Chorus. She started playing the organ at the Assumption Catholic Church when she was in seventh grade. As an adult, Julie enjoyed playing for residents at the nursing home and Iron County Medical Care Facility, and was best known for her organ playing around the area for local churches. She also enjoyed brook trout fishing with her dad and Don, gardening, knitting, rosemaling, and all arts and crafts. She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Povich, and sister-in-law, Eloise Erbin. Julie is survived by her husband, Don; sons, Kevin (Jean) McDonald of Sterling Heights, and Shaun (Melodi) McDonald of Rochester Hill, MI; brother, Walter Dabeck of Manitowoc, WI; sisters, Pauline Friend of Battle Creek, MI, and Mary Ann Fritch of Lansing, MI; sister-in-law. Darlene Duff of Iron Mountain, MI; grandchildren, Scott and David; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The Ladies of St. Ann 's Society will form an Honor Guard at the service. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
