Julius R. Scalcucci, age 92, of Iron River, MI, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. He was born April 3, 1924 in Iron River, MI, the son of the late David and Yolanda (Lumbrici) Scalcucci. He attended the Iron River Schools, and was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during WWII. He was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and four Overseas Service Bars, and was a member of American Legion Reino Post #21 of Stambaugh. He was employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Company in the local mines for over 30 years, and was a Union Leader for the mine. Julius married the former Jane Bottea on September 21, 1946 in Iron River, and the couple made their home in Stambaugh until Jane preceded him in death. On October 24, 1987, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Spoke, and the couple was married for 29 years. He was a member St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, carpentry, and especially spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Julius is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Rick (Joan) Scalcucci of Wausau, WI; daughters, Barbara (Butch) Langdon of Wyoming, MN, Nancy (Dennis) Mullen of Westminster, CO, and Cindy Scalcucci of Thorton, CO; brother, David (Mary) Scalcucci of Lincoln Park, MI; sister, Vera Quirk of Arvada, CO; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Prittinen, infant sister, Valentina, and brothers-in-law, Frank Quirk and Nels Prittinen. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in the spring. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the Graveside service.
