June C. Michaels

June C. Michaels, age 95 of Kingsford, MI, formerly of Iron River, died Friday March 27, 2009 at the Manor Care Health Services, Kingsford, MI. Born: August 31, 1913, Iron River, MI She was the daughter of the late Edward and Olga (Tolquist) Couney, attending the Homer and Iron River schools, graduating with the class of 1931. She also attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in education. On August 5, 1942, she married Joseph Michaels in Iron Mountain. The couple made their home in Iron River and they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Joseph preceded her in death February 14, 1999. June taught school at the Homer, Alpha and Iron River schools. In 1992 they moved to Kingsford, MI to reside. June later moved to Evergreen Assisted Living to reside. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the 20th Century Women's Club. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Theodore, Atley, Herbert, and Alvin Couney; and sisters, Mildred and Hilma. Survived by one son, Charles (Linda) Michaels of Traverse City, MI One daughter, Marie (Larry) Lewis of Salem, OH Five grandchildren; Matthew, Travis, Amanda, Nichole and Larry.
