Katherine L. Gossel

Katherine “Kathy” L. (Mathews) Gossel, age 58, of Caspian, MI, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility. She was born on January 22, 1961 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of Irma (Bonel) Mathews and the late Harry Mathews. She attended the West Iron County Schools, graduating with the Class of 1979.  She then attended Gogebic College and became a License Practical Nurse. Kathy married Jeffery Gossel on May 12, 1989 in Crystal Falls, Michigan. The couple celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary shortly before Jeffrey’s passing on May 25, 2017.  She was employed as a LPN for 30 years, working at Iron County General Hospital, and for Dr. Koivunen, Dr. Kearney, and Dr. Rizkalla, and Dr. Han.  She enjoyed going to camp, cooking, baking cheesecakes, kayaking, and loved spending time with her dogs.   Kathy is survived by son, Sawyer Gossel of Caspian, MI; stepsons, James (Rachel) Gossel of Gainsboro, KY and Joseph Gossel of Cadillac, MI; stepdaughter, Shawna (Trebor) Gossel of Cadillac, MI; sister, Lisa (Rick) Erickson of Iron River; nieces, Amy (Alan) Dahl of Gaastra, MI, Sarah Erickson of Iron River, MI, and Eden (John) Tusa of Iron River, MI; great nieces, Ashley Mathews and Aurora Dahl; special friend, Karen Frazier Teasdale and all the friends that made her last months at Medicare easier. She was also preceded in death by her father, husband, and brother, Vern and an infant brother. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
