Katherine “Katie” A. Kempisty, age 89, of Iron River, MI, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the Iron River Care Center. Katie was born October 25, 1926 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Przbylski) Yackel. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended the Bates School. On October 25, 1952 she married Adam Kempisty at the former Assumption Church of Iron River. She and her husband owned and operated “Joe’s Tavern” in Iron River until his death in 1982. She then continued to operate the tavern until her retirement in 2002. Katie was known to be very kind and generous to people. She was a member of the former Assumption Catholic Church of Iron River. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Henry, Fritz, William, and Edward Yackel. She is survived by her sisters, Rose Seymour of Iron River and Virginia (Robert) Rucinski of Grand Rapids, MN; compassionate caregivers for several years, John and Karen Otto of Iron River; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
