Katherine E. Simunjak

Katherine E. Simunjak, age 89, of Iron River, MI died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain, MI. She was born on November 16, 1918 in Caspian, MI to John and Margaret (Melchiori) Sporer. The family moved to Chicago, IL where she graduated from Harrison High School in 1937. Katherine married Frank M. Simunjak on November 15, 1941 in Chicago, IL and the couple resided in Elmhurst, IL. She was employed by the EMC Insurance Company of Oakbrook, IL. Her husband Frank preceded her in death in February of 1987. She then moved to Bolingbrook, IL to reside near her daughter Carol. In 1998 she moved to Iron River to reside near her daughter Karen. For the past three years, she enjoyed residency at the Golden Living Center of Florence, WI where she received excellent care from the entire staff. Katherine was a member of St Agnes Catholic Church, Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #32, and the Sloboda Athletic Club. She was an avid bowler, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking, and playing pinochle with a card club. She also greatly enjoyed watching old movies on television. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, George Bond and a grandson, Jerry Weber. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Bond, Iron River, MI Carol (Gerald) Froeming, Bolingbrook, IL Three grandchildren, Michael Weber (fiancee, Catherine Wesley) Katherine Roth Kristine (Michael) Otto Granddaughter-in-law, Sharon Weber Five Great Grandchildren, David Weber Erik Weber Lauren Roth Rachel Roth Jacob Otto The family suggests memorials to the Northwoods Animal Shelter. Funeral Services: Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River with Rev. Norman Clisch to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
