Katherine A. Sporer

Katherine “Cottie” A. Sporer, age 91, of Iron River, MI, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 10, 2024. She was born on August 26, 1932, in Iron River, MI, the daughter of the late John and Celia (Bonavich) Povich. She attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the class of 1950. Katherine married John Sporer on May 9, 1953, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, MI. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2022. John preceded her in death on May 2, 2023. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, knitting, photography, and feeding the deer. Katherine is survived by her daughter, Sue Sporer of Iron River, MI; sister, Frances Ugolini of Lake Geneva, WI; grandchildren, Benjamin (Veronica) Gonyeau, Christopher (Chelsea) Gonyeau, and Caitlin (Steve) Atkinson; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Sporer; brothers, Peter, Emil, and George Povich; and sisters, Ann McMahon and Mary Stebbins. A graveside service will be Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Stambaugh Cemetery with Deacon Terry Verville to officiate.
