Laila H. Kallio

Laila H. Kallio, age 93, of Caspian, MI, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the Iron River Care Center. She was born March 7, 1927 in Askel, MI, the daughter of the late Andrew and Saima (Heikkinen) Tauriainen. She attended the Tapiola School in Houghton County. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Iron River Eagles Auxiliary #1603. She enjoyed working on needle point, reading, making ceramics, and caring for both indoor and outdoor animals. Laila is survived by her son, Roger (Barbara Marcell) Kallio of Caspian, MI; daughter, Carol Stolberg of Comstock Park, MI; granddaughter, Gina Kallio of Rhinelander, WI; extended family and friends. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dennis Kallio; brothers, Wesley, Paul, Roland, and Wallace; and sisters, Eleanor and Dorothy. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 11:00 am at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River with Pastor Andy Hill to officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Laila’s honor to the Northwoods Animal Shelter or a charity of your choice.
